A young woman whose life was saved by a double lung transplant is appealing for more people to sign up to the donor register.
Victoria Tremlett, 25 known as Tor from Romford has filmed an emotional video for National Transplant Week from July 9 to July 15.
She said: “It’s amazing, I feel like I have had my life transformed.
“I hope that people will watch the video and it will inspire them to sign up to the register so that other people will not have to go through what I did.”
Tor, who has Cystic Fibrosis underwent the life saving operation last October after four years of waiting and eight false alarms.
Since then she says that she feels as if she has got her life back and has been able to sit an exam that she deferred twice because of ill health.
She has also been able to hold her baby niece, who she didn’t think she would live to see.
In the video, Tor, who recorded a similar one last year, talks about how her life has changed.
She said: “I feel like I have got my life back, I am making new friends, been able to go out, but I couldn’t do anything like that before.
“Being able to walk down the road without the oxygen is so surreal but it means that I am living life as opposed to just existing.”
Tor is still under the care of Harefield Hospital where she goes every three months, but the doctors are happy with her progress.
She said: “When I think about what I have to go through now, it doesn’t compare to how I had to struggle before my operation.
“If a problem did develop in the future then I would still be really grateful that I have had the time to live my life rather than just existing.”
Tor has signed up to do the London Parks Half Marathon in October to mark the first year since she had the transplant.
Half of the money raised from the event will go to St Francis Hospice who cared for her when she was sick and the Harefield Hospital where she was treated.
She said: “I don’t know if I am going to get around but I am trying to do a lot of walking.
“A lot of people have been very good to me and whenever I can I will use my voice to spread the word about the donor register.”
