Young rowers from Havering schools made waves at the London Youth Games this month.

The borough finished second in the adaptive rowing event at the games on Sunday July 1st, held in Crystal Palace. The team included eight Sanders Draper students and one Royal Liberty pupil.

And the indoor rowing team finished third in the relay with a team drawn from Sanders Draper, Frances Bardsley, Marshall Park and Royal Liberty schools.

In addition, many of the rowers competed in other teams, bringing home more gold, silver and bronze medals.

Karen Grandison of Sanders Draper said: “We are extremely proud of the students involved, who had a fantastic team spirit combined with a huge amount of effort and determination to achieve. This resulted in returning with 17 medals.

“Individual congratulations go to Bianca Agu Brown who is one of our Year 8 students who won a Silver Medal in the individual event.”

The adaptive rowing team manager was Leah Hayzelden.

Overall, Havering finished 10th out of 33 boroughs in the games, with 1015 points.
