ALMOST 200 brave fundraisers who took a 120ft leap for charity have been honoured for their incredible efforts.

Participants who abseiled down the YMCA building in Romford earlier this year were presented with certificates at a special award ceremony last Thursday.

The seventh annual abseil, organised by the Havering East Rotary club and YMCA, saw 180 fundraisers take the plunge to raise money for a host of charities, including St Francis Hospice, First Step and Queen’s Hospital.

Havering mayor, Cllr Pam Light, helped hand out the certificates to the fundraisers at the YMCA in Rush Green Road.

President of the Havering East Rotary Club, John Binder, said: “I’m exceptionally proud of everyone’s efforts.

“We had people of all ages take part – from youngsters to the elderly. What’s remarkable was even the disabled took part. We had one woman who even went over the side in her wheelchair. Some people show remarkable strength of character and determination.”

The total amount raised is expected to top 1,000.
