Five members of Havering police have returned from a fundraising mission in New York which saw them pulling a plane.

The group, which included former Havering borough commander Chief Supt Sultan Tyler, joined a 70-strong team of UK police officers to raise money for Jack’s Pack (Police Against Cancer in Kids) appeal.

The charity was set up in 2008 by Richard and Yvonne Brown, parents of Jack Brown, who died aged seven in 2009 after suffering from Neuroblastoma which affects the nervous system.

Colleagues of Mr and Mrs Brown, who were Met police officers, helped fundraise for Jack’s treatment in America as it was unavailable in the UK.

The charity continues to fundraise to help children with similar conditions get treatment.

The police team all successfully completed a half marathon in uniform in Central Park and took on a New York Ports Authority Team to pull an Airbus A320 at John F Kennedy Airport.

Chief Supt Tyler said: “Unfortunately we lost the plane pull but enjoyed the event.

“We also attended the British Consulate and officers went out on patrol with the NYPD.

“I am very pleased that I have again joined the team this, year, and very proud of the work completed by all involved but especially PC Mark Edwards and our affiliation with Havering Borough where Mark started the initiative.”
