One of Havering’s historic parks is set to be given a huge boost thanks to waste firm Veolia.

Veolia Havering Riverside Trust (VHRT) has donated 65,500 to Bedfords Park in Havering-atte-Bower so that it can be enjoyed by more people.

Doug Benjafield, chairman of VHRT said: “We are really pleased to be once again supporting the work that is undertaken here at Bedfords Park.

“It is a well-loved, well-used family park with plenty to provide enjoyment. We hope that this latest project will increase that.”

The funds are going to be used to install a pathway between the car park and visitor centre, including links to specimen trees and the captive herd of red deer, and to create improvements to access for wheelchairs and pushchairs around the visitor centre.

It will also help to create more signs, artwork and sculptures to improve understanding of the park’s environment and wildlife.

Cllr Andrew Curtin, cabinet member for culture, towns and communities said: “We are really very grateful to receive this grant.

“Feedback from users and residents indicated that this programme of work would further increase enjoyment of this significant site of metropolitan importance for nature conservation.”
