Havering Museum will be celebrating the Olympic Torch passing through Havering on Sunday.

The museum in High Street, Romford will be open for free on Sunday July 22 from 11am to mark the occasion on Sunday July 22.

It is a chance for residents to see their latest exhiibition called Havering Sporting Heroes, inspired by the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

The exhibition, which was officially opened by Sir Trevor Brooking highlights sportsmen and women who have achieved greatness in their own particular fields and helped to inspire people through sport.

The Exhibition pays tribute to the many clubs and associations in Havering that encourage and help people of all ages to enjoy a wide range of sporting activities.

Among those honoured are Havering’s first real sporting hero boxer Daniel Mendoza, golfer James Braid, cricketer Kenneth Farnes, diver Edna Childs, boxer John Mahoney, footballers Ted Ditchburn, Jimmy Greaves and Tony Cottee, snooker champion Steve Davis and current Olympic and world champion rower Mark Hunter.

The Havering Sporting Heroes Exhibition will be open to the public until Saturday 15 September 2012.
