Mayor Cllr Lynden Thorpe took time to say thank-you in person to the council staff who helped Havering win seven awards at this year's London in Bloom contest.

Cllr Thorpe met the hard-working horticulturalists at Langtons Hall in Hornchurch last week.

For the second year in a row, the borough bagged a biodiversity award for its wide variety of plants and wildlife. This year, it added gold awards for Bedford’s Park and Hornchurch Country Park to its trophy cabinet.

Cllr Thorpe said: “It was an honour to accept the awards on behalf of the council this year, and it’s lovely to meet the people who made it all happen.

“They are simply bloomin’ marvellous!”

Havering’s environment boss Cllr Barry Tebbutt said: “We were really pleased to win so many prizes this year, and all due to the hard work and vision of these great people.”
