With temperatures scraping zero degrees, council gritters have been out since Friday (January 11) spreading grit on Havering’s main roads.
Street care boss Cllr Barry Tebbutt said: “We’ve had four gritters out and about since Friday evening laying about 16 tonnes of grit each night to keep the borough moving.
“We grit the roads and pavements in priority order and are only gritting the main roads and emergency routes at the moment.
“It’s important for neighbours to look out for each other at this time, particularly the elderly. I’d like to encourage people to check in on their neighbours, make sure are warm and well, and offer help if they need it.”
