A Havering councillor joined a protest to mark the anniversary of the announcement of the closure of accident and emergency (A&E) services at King George Hospital.
Heaton ward Labour councillor Paul McGeary joined the demo – over concerns about the impact it would have on Romford’s Queen’s Hospital.
He said: “They say that existing local services should meet the needs of the local populations they represent.
“Having to travel long distances to get urgent treatment could be a matter of life or death.”
Cllr McGeary joined the other campaigners in calling for a halt to the proposals.
The labour unit at King George, in Goodmayes, is due to close around April, though there is no official timeline for the A&E’s closure.
Heath chiefs say concentrating care at fewer sites across north east London is best for patients.
