Havering Council and police will be hitting back against thieves who steal number plates in the borough.
The day of action, on Wednesday, October 24, comes as an increase in the number of thefts have been reported to police.
Motorists will be able to have tamper-proof screws fitted to their number plates at the event at Tesco, in Bridge Road, Rainham. They will be fitted for free by approved traders. It will be from 10am to 2pm.
Cllr Geoff Starns, cabinet member for community safety, said: “Thieves would love their get their hands on your number plate to be able to commit crimes which cannot be traced back to them, but there is a simple solution to stop them in their tracks.
“These tamper proof screws can be fitted on the day and for free and are a simple way to secure your number plate. I hope lots of residents will come along for the chance to secure their plates, and also find out more about preventing vehicle crime in Havering.”
