Retailers are being urged to enter the Havering Business Awards ahead of the entry deadline next Monday (June 30).
The awards – which are organised by Havering Council – are now in their 10th year and aim at putting shop owners in the spotlight.
For this year’s celebrations, the Romford Recorder is sponsoring the Retailer of the Year category.
We will be giving readers the chance to choose the category finalists, either through a paper vote or an online poll on our website.
Cllr Robert Benham, cabinet member for community empowerment, said: “Introducing a vote is a great way to decide the finalists and will be a true mark of customer care.
“It will be a huge boost for the winner as they will be judged by their own customers.”
Businesses which have been trading for at least 12 months can enter, either nominating themselves or being put forward by customers.
And in celebration of the awards’ 10th birthday, there will be a new category – A Decade of Success – aiming to recognise longstanding businesses.
The new award, which is being sponsored by insurance company Right Choice, will feature for one year only and is open to any companies which have been trading for at least 10 years.
“We have many longstanding businesses in Havering which really creates a sense of community in the borough,” said Cllr Benham.
“The business that wins this award will have adapted to changes, have strong leadership and a great story to tell.”
Right Choice MD Mike Joseph said: “We have really enjoyed our success at the Havering Business Awards and it seemed only right after three wins, the last being the ultimate accolade in 2013, that we now support the awards as a sponsor and encourage other businesses in the borough to get involved.”
Chris Carter, executive editor at the Recorder, said: “The Havering Business Awards, now in their tenth year, are a true testament to the fantastic businesses we have here.
“We are very proud to be associated with such a longstanding programme and encourage everyone to enter.”
This year’s awards will focus on customer service.
