The Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA) marked Diwali with an Indian meal and a party including Bollywood performances, a DJ and a raffle at the Greenfields community centre, in Kilmartin Way, Elm Park, on Saturday.

Rainham and Dagenham MP Jon Cruddas, Havering deputy mayor Cllr Linda Van den Hende and Elm Park councillors attended the association’s festivities.

The HASWA women’s group also provided entertainment throughout the celebration and 105-year-old marathon runner Fauja Singh made a guest appearance.

Secretary of HASWA Sansar Singh Narwal said: “Events such as the Diwali celebration promote better cultural understanding of Havering’s rich and diverse community.”
