Havering and East London Ramblers

To celebrating a walking group’s 30th anniversary, they stepped back in time and followed in the footsteps of the original ramblers.

The Havering and East London Ramblers journeyed from the Two Brewers in Ongar to Toot Hill village, just as the very first members of the group did in 1988.

A celebration was then held at The Old Chapel, St Mary’s Lane, Upminster, where more than 50 from across the years of walking attended.

Chairwoman Ellen Owen said: “It has been 30 years of walking, talking, friendships, holidays and crazy fun along the way on more adventurous walks up mountains and in the snow.

“Walking in a social group is brilliant for your health and 95pc of the long term walkers who might be in their 70s or 80s can certainly out walk me and have a great sense of fun, which keeps us all young.

“The group is great for all ages and has weekday and weekend walks.”
