Cambridge could beckon for one Hornchurch student who faces a nervous wait to see if he is accepted into his first choice university.

Patrick Wilson, of Upminster, who admits costly tuition fees never put him off studying for a degree, was forced to endure a stressful morning as he waited to hear from Cambridge University.

The 18-year-old said: “I was really nervous when I woke up this morning but was really pleased to see I’d managed to get an A*, A and a B. I’m hoping to study classics at Cambridge. My second choice is Exeter.

“The teachers are brilliant here but the exam pressure was definitely the hardest part of the two years. I was never put off going to university by the high costs. I see it as a steeping stone to getting a better job.”
