Plans for Romford’s proposed new swimming pool, leisure centre and ice rink are now on display.

Proposals for a new Morrison’s supermarket to be built on the site of the current ice rink in Rom Valley Way, can also be viewed.

A public exhibition, held by Havering Council and Wm Morrison Supermarket Plc and revealing all about the proposed schemes, will be held at Central Library, Romford, until Saturday.

Representatives from the project teams will be on hand to answer questions from 2pm to 8pm today (Thursday), 12pm to 6pm tomorrow, and 10am to 4pm on Saturday.

‘Enjoyment’

The council is selling the ice rink to Morrisons to fund the new leisure complex, which is planned for Western Road.

The proposals, which are still subject to planning permission, will include a four-storey leisure centre with a replacement ice rink, an eight-lane competition swimming pool, a learner pool, sauna and steam room, changing areas, fitness suite with studio, multi-use dance-studio and a restaurant.

The Morrisons’ plans include a new foodstore and petrol filling station in Rom Valley Way and 65 residential homes.

Full planning applications are expected to be submitted later this year, and construction could begin in early 2014.

Havering Council leader Cllr Michael White said: “We know that Havering residents have long wanted to see a new swimming pool and leisure centre built in Romford, for the enjoyment of the whole community.

“The council has shared this ambition with them and I’m very pleased that this scheme has now reached the public consultation stage after much work behind the scenes.

“We want to hear from as many residents, sports groups and interested parties as possible.”
