THOUSANDS of holiday-makers now face being separated from their loved ones this Christmas as Heathrow Airport struggles to clear a huge backlog of delayed flights.
The bungled flights today saw Heathrow chief executive Colin Matthews admit the conditions were “unacceptable” and forgo his yearly bonus, believed to be a six-figure sum.
He said: “We weren’t adequately prepared. We must make sure that if we have the same set of circumstances we are not closed for three days.”
