There were plenty of wheels on display at the St Peter’s Car show.

More than 3,000 people turned out for the second year of the event at Redden Court School in Cotswold Road, Harold Wood on Saturday June 16 and helped to raise 5,800 for the London Air Ambulance.

Spencer Griffiths, one of the organisers of the show said: “The day was just amazing.

“Our biggest worry was the weather, but luckily it held out and it was windy but the sun was shining.”

Among the exhibits were classic, sports and American cars.

Fans of the Thundersbirds series were in for a treat when a pink KA convertible car used in the film and signed by one of the actresses rolled onto the site.

Other highlights included Essex Audi who brought with them a good display of cars including some new Audi models.

The Romford Renault also came in with some of their latest models and there was a police car, an ambulance and a fire engine.

This year’s event also had plenty for the children including bouncy castles, refreshments and face painting.

Spencer said: “It was probably one of the biggest ranges of cars.

“There were American cars, classic cars and some very old vintage cars, things like 1920 Rolls Royce and there was a very old Jaguar.”

The event was organised by a dedicated team of 100 volunteers and self confessed petrol heads from St Peter’s Church in Gubbins Lane, Harold Wood.

The car show started off as a way of involving more men in the parish church, but after the success of last year’s event the group decided to do more to try to bring in the whole family.

This year’s event raised funds for the London Air Ambulance thanks to help from Barclays Bank Whitechapel, who matched the 2,500 raised from the refreshments stall on the day.

Spencer said: “We are really pleased about raising so much for a worthwhile charity.

“People don’t always realise that they are a charity and they rely on people’s generosity, so the funds will be a real life line for them to help people.”
