Harold Hill dog show pulls in a crowd

Thousands of residents and their four legged friends turned out for the return of this year’s Havering Happy Hounds show.

Central Park in Harold Hill was full of dog lovers and their pets for an afternoon of fun events on Sunday June 17.

The day’s acitivies included the Delta Dog Display team who performed a show of skill and agility, free poop bags from Havering Council and a free micro chipping service.

But the highlight of the day was the Happy Hounds show itself.

Dozens of dogs took part in the contest competing in the 12 categories.

There were prizes for the dog most like its owner, as well as some more unusual cateogories like best veteran and even a waggiest tail award.

Other highlights of the day were a flyball exhibition by the ‘Staffordshire Bull Terrierists’. Flyball is a game where dogs race against each other through a series of jumps and hurdles to catch a tennis ball and return it to the owner.

Cabinet Member for Culture, Towns and Communities, Councillor Andrew Curtin, said: “I greatly enjoyed attending the day, seeing the displays and learning more about how we can care for our pets and safely enjoy our award winning parks. Many congratulations to all those volunteers and others who did so much work to put this most enjoyable event together”.

The Recorder also had a stall at the show giving out free papers, sponsored by Hill Park Vets in Harold Hill.
