A bowls club hosted its first ever beetle drive to raise hundreds of pounds for a dementia charity.

Harold Hill Bowls Club raised a total of £384 for Alzheimer’s Research thanks to the efforts of Sandra Long, daughter of ex-secretary Alan Trust.

The money will go towards Sandra’s target of £3,000 she hopes to raise before taking on the London Marathon in April.

A club spokesman said: “Most of us will know someone who has been affected by these illnesses, however, compared with other conditions such as cancer, the level of public engagement by either donations or direct participation is very low.”

To donate, or are interesting in using the bowls club’s facilities, visit or call 01708 386819.
