You’ve seen cinemas of the rooftop, drive-in and hot tub variety – now a scout group has come up with a new way to watch your favourite film.
The idea was borne out of the need to raise funds and was initially proposed by leader David Wright – though the youngsters were kept involved through the process.
“We were looking to be more involved in community projects,” he said. “This way we can raise money for the group and provide a venue where the community can enjoy their favourite films with friends and family.”
Bean Bag Cinema is registered with the Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC) and is showing a range of classic films right through until Christmas.
David explained: “We are showing films that are being re-released, for example our first screening was Jurassic Park. But we’re looking to expand it and can take requests for birthdays and private events.”
The screen can hold up to 25 people, while the scouts also run a tuck shop to raise money for their group.
The positive reaction to last week’s premiere screening of the Steven Spielberg classic has been welcomed by everyone involved.
“Everyone really enjoyed it,” said David, 33. “Now our aim is to create lasting memories and give the local community an experience of something different to do in the area.”
Having also designed the website, David will teach the scout group how to manage it.
The next step is to approach businesses in the area to sponsor screenings and raise money for local charities.
