Jodie Parkin only just made it to collect her results from the Sanders Draper School in Hornchurch after being recently discharged from hospital.

Jodie, who has cerebral palsy, is in plaster after having both legs operated on a few weeks ago.

She was thrilled to have achieved the necessary grades to go on to study media at Havering Sixth Form College. Jodie hopes to work in film when she is older.

She explained that the call saying she was to have her operation could have come at any time since January. Speaking of this added pressure while studying for her exams, Jodie said: “I was more worried about my GCSEs than the operation, but I’m so glad they’re both out the way now! I can’t wait to start college in September and pursue my ambition of working in film.”

She and her classmates, many of whom had signed her casts, were full of smiles.
