Gas leak with “high explosive levels” causes evacuation of Gidea Park businesses

An accountants, a newsagents and a dry cleaners all had to be evacuated this morning due to a gas leak with “high explosive levels.”
The row of buildings in Carlton Road, Gidea Park were cleared at about 10.30am and fire crews from Harold Hill arrived at the scene shortly after.
They were joined by police, who set up a cordon for about two hours until the buildings were made safe again by gas company Transco.
A spokesman from Harold Hill fire service said: “We were there for a couple of hours, a police cordon had to be set up while the gas company made it all safe. There were high explosive levels but no one was harmed.”
