Fundraise on the First: Recorder reporter gearing up for gruelling obstacle course

An endurance challenge with a difference which tasks its participants with doing anything from throwing spears to leaping over flames awaits a Recorder reporter.
Harriet Orrell, 24, has signed up for the Spartan Race Sprint to raise money for our Fundraise on the First campaign.
She will join together with her teammates from Hampstead Ladies’ rugby club to tackle a tough three-mile course.
The challenge will be made harder by the fact that the 15 obstacles will not be revealed until May 15, the day the race kicks off in Allianz Park, London.
Harriet said: “We’re tackling the race as a team.
“If someone is struggling to climb over a wall or complete an obstacle, we’ll help them.
“Our target is to raise £1,500 in total, that’s about £100 for each of the 15 girls competing. But hopefully we’ll smash that.”
Nurse Jessica Searle, 23, one of Harriet’s teammates, came up with the idea of the group tackling the sprint.
She said: “I’m a bit nervous because it’s my first charity event, but I’m excited because I’ll have my teammates with me.
“They are like my family, so when you achieve something you want them there with you and they’ll be in the moment with me.”
Harriet is not only competing in the race for First Step, she is also taking part in a fundraising 10k run with a dozen colleagues.
This will take place at Regent’s Park on July 5.
