Friends will face Star Trek for Havering hospice

Make new mates or meet up with people you know for a girls’ night out with a difference – a midnight walk in aid of St Francis Hospice.
Friends Pauline Mould and Patricia Wilson have signed up to take part in the fourth Star Trek walk in Romford on Saturday July 7 and you could join them and meet new people as well as have fun with those you already know.
Pauline, from Romford, who is taking part in the 10km walk for the first time, said: “My brother was given help and advice by St Francis Hospice before he passed away and my neighbour was cared for at the hospice so I can’t think of a better charity to support.”
She added: “My friend Patricia has enjoyed the walk for a few years and I’m happy to be joining her this year. I hope it will raise a lot of money for Saint Francis Hospice and it will help keep us fit while we’re taking part.”
Patricia Wilson, who works in the outpatients department at Spire Hartswood hospital, in Essex, said: “This will be the third Star Trek walk I’d have supported for the hospice and I love taking part. You get to talk to new people on the way round, so it doesn’t matter if you are on your own or part of a group and there is always plenty of laughter.”
She added: “Last year my daughter Katie and I raised £1,000 and I felt really pleased to think I was doing something to help others. A lot of patients and families we care for benefit from the specialist support of St Francis Hospice.”
This year Patricia hopes to raise more than £1,000 for the hospice, which could cover the cost of a nurse providing several hours care for five patients in their own homes.
The walk starts and finishes at The Liberty Shopping Centre, Romford, and there will be plenty of fun on offer before the walk starts at midnight with street dancers, a Zumba demonstration, a pre-walk warm up from event supporter Gymophobics and even a Michael Buble tribute act.
Places are £15 each and can be booked online at www.sfh.org.uk email email@example.com or calling 01708 771427.
