West Ham midfielder Gary O’Neil may be spending some more time on the sidelines after limping off during Tuesday night’s dismal 4-1 Capital One Cup defeat by Wigan Athletic.
The 29-year-old, who missed nearly a whole year with a career-threatening ankle injury, was forced off after 84 minutes of Tuesday night’s match.
West Ham boss Sam Allardyce confirmed that it could be a serious injury for O’Neil.
“It is a bad knee,” said the boss. “He will have a scan in two days time to see the extent of the damage.
“He has got a kick on it, but we don’t know whether the kick has opened up the joint so that, rather than a bruise, there may be more damage.
“We won’t know until the MRI.”
