A retired programme manager from BT was overjoyed after winning £1,000 in St Francis Hospice’s lottery.
Rita Marshall, 66, from Ilford, signed up with the lottery last year, but said she never expected to win.
She said: “I signed up because the hospice is local. I’d heard of their work before but thankfully none of my family have had the need to use their services.
“I’m not typically a lucky person but I haven’t been playing for long and I’ve already won so I shall definitely get my husband to sign up too!” She plans to spend her winnings on her grandchildren.
