Saint Francis Hospice held its seventh annual Star Walk, in Romford, on Saturday night.

The atmosphere was electric as walkers got into the groove for the 1980s themed event, which is expected to raise a whopping £30,000.

Katy Woodgate, the hospice’s events and community manager, said: “It was an amazing evening and we are so grateful to all the ladies for coming along and taking part.

“They embraced the 1980s with tutus and legwarmers.

“It was a real celebration of people coming together and walking for their loved ones.”

Time FM presenters Neil Andrews and Charlotte Sullivan, along with 1980s tribute band Angels, got the crowds in the party mood before they set out on their way.

Also cheering on the women was Dene Michael, from Black Lace, who led the warm up before singing his famous hit Agadoo as the ladies did a conga to the start line.

A night fell the dark streets of Romford were awash with fluorescent T-shirts accessorised with wigs, tutus, jewellery and leg warmers.

The town’s party-goers also came out to cheer on the women as they came together to support the Havering-atte-Bower hospice.

While the evening was emotional for those whose relatives had experienced the care of the hospice there was also a celebratory mood as they remembered their families and loved ones.

The hospice has thanked The Liberty Shopping Centre, in Romford, and the ladies gym Go30 for sponsoring the event.
