Firefighters tackled a blaze at a former nightclub last night where it is believed homeless people have been sleeping.
The London Fire Brigade were called at 10.16pm to the fire in South Street, Romford.
The site was home to Brannigans and then Club Ciroc before it closed down.
Brigade watch manager Rob Hyde said: “We were told the building was being used by homeless people as a place to sleep, but fortunately nobody was found inside.
“The building had been boarded up which made it quite difficult to ventilate the property.”
Approximately 21 firefighters and officers from Romford, Hornchurch and Ilford tackled the fire on the second-floor of the building.
The blaze was brought under control at 12.11am.
