The borough’s fire cadets raised hundreds of pounds for charity during an evening of collecting donations outside at a supermarket last week.
For three hours, cadets from this year’s class stood at the entrance to the Tesco superstore in Gallows Corner collecting for the fire fighters charity.
Fire cadet coordinator Sue Douglas said: “It was really good, I know it’s not all about the money and that it’s also good to teach young people about being charitable and doing good work for others, but in the end we raised more than £500 and I was absolutely chuffed.
“We had some staff from the shop come out and help and people would ask us to mind their dogs in exchange for donations and it was just a really lovely evening.”
Havering’s fire cadets are still accepting applications for their September course. They meet at Harold Hill fire station on Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm. To apply, contact Susan on 07795 542435 or email susan.douglas@london-fire.gov.uk
