The build up to Christmas got under way last night as the Romford’s festive lights were switched on by Father Christmas and Rudolph the reindeer.

The lead up to the grand firework finale saw performances from musicians, dancers and acrobatic group the Black Eagles.

Among the performers were 13-year-old Aaron Floyd, Gospel Essence – who have appeared on BBC show The Naked Choir with Gareth Malone – and girl band PYT.

Winner of Mercury Mall’s Summer of Sound competition Lucy Lombard also performed as did finalists Daisy Benson and Amy Harman.

Princess Elsa from Disney’s Frozen had the large crowd gathered in the Market Place singing along to Let It Go while Widow Twanky and Wishee Washee from Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch’s panto, Aladdin, had them roaring with laughter.

CBeenbies presenter Cat Sandion welcomed The Gruffalo, Father Christmas, Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman to the stage to illuminate the town in a festive glow alongside Mayor of Havering, Cllr Brian Eagling.
