A motorbiker may have given chase to the driver of a fleeing car involved in a fatal hit-and-run in Havering - and police are asking the rider to contact them.

Officers were called at around 5pm on Friday (November 9) to reports of a collision between a car and two motorbikes on the A12 near Gallows Corner.

The male rider of one of the motorcycles, aged in his early 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers await formal identification and confirmation that next-of-kin have been informed.

London Ambulance Service also attended.

A postmortem examination is due to be held today (Tuesday).

The rider of the second motorcycle, also a man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

It appears that both motorcycles were in collision with a silver Renault Laguna estate.

The driver of the Renault did not stop at the scene and drove off towards Essex.

Officers wish to trace this driver and his vehicle, which sustained damage in the collisions, including a shattered rear windscreen.

Officers also believe that a third motorcyclist - who was not involved in the incident - may have pursued the driver and are keen to speak with him.

The motorcycle is described as a blue and either a Honda Hornet or Suzuki Bandit of around 600cc in size.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may assist police should call officers at Chadwell Heath Road Death Investigation Unit on: 020 8597 4874.
