The dedicated family of murdered Harold Hill man Chrissy Taylor raised 5,000 through a charity golf tournament for a baby unit at Queen’s Hospital.

The annual tournament brings the total raised by the Taylors for the neonatal intensive care unit (Nicu) at the Romford hospital to 24,000 since the tragic death of the 25-year-old back in 2004.

The money was donated through the King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity, which is this week being relaunched under its new name – having previously been known as the Barking, Havering and Redbridge Hospitals Charity.

Linda George, charitable accountant for the organisation, said the charity wanted to thank everyone who took part in the tournament – especially Chrissy’s parents Kevin and Sue, and all their children.

“Despite the torrential rain and impossible golfing conditions – half the golf course flooded – the sponsored tournament was a great success,” she said.

The money raised this year will be used to buy Optiflow equipment, which is used to helps infants who have breathing problems.

Chrissy Taylor was stabbed eight times as he left a party in Ashton Road on New Year’s Day in 2004. He was taken to Oldchurch Hospital but pronounced dead within hours.

The Taylor family believes Chrissy would have wished them to raise money for the unit, which looks after sick newborns, in his memory – as he had a particular affinity with babies and young children.

King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity is holding relaunch events this evening (Thursday) at King George Hospital and tomorrow at Queen’s Hospital, Rom Valley Way.
