Ex-West Ham and Spurs players speaking at Upminster events to help cancer victim

Mother Rebecca Warren suffers from spinal cancer, and her friends and family are raising money for her to have specialist treatment in the USA.

The 31-year-old was has suffered from rare tumours since being diagnosed, six years ago, and has three major operations.

But in November last year she received the news that there was nothing more NHS doctors could do for her.

One of her sisters Jakki said: “What do we do, accept the news? No, we continue to fight and fight it all the way.

“Our sister has fought this illness for six years and now is the time that we fight for her.

“She is the most loving, caring, person I have ever known.”

So her family and friends are raising money to send her to the States for Cyber Knife therapy – which can pinpoint tumours more accurately than conventional radiation treatment.

A fundraising night will be held in Upminster on March 29, featuring ex-Hammers Julian Dicks, Frank McAvennue and Alvin Martin.

Then, on April 12, an audience with ex-Tottenham Hotspur players Steve Perryman, Micky Hazard, Martin Chivers and Graham Roberts will be taking place.

Both events take place at the West Lodge Function Suite, on Corbets Tey Road, at 7.30pm, and will feature raffles for signed memorabilia, with food and drink available.

Jakki, from Dagenham, added: “We have received fantastic support throughout the community, but we are a long way short of our target and are working hard to get to our target of £250,000.”

A proportion of all proceeds will go towards the fundraising target.
