A reformed ex-offender from Rainham has been doing her bit to keep others on the straight and narrow – and received a certificate to mark her continued success.

Jane Lee, of Tuck Road, hit headlines in July last year after writing a book detailing her life in London’s criminal underworld, and her decision to turn her life around.

Since then she’s been volunteering with rehabilitation service Crime Reduction Initiatives (CRI) – and last month she attended a presentation ceremony at the London Probation Trust’s Romford office.

There she was handed a certificate for successfully completing her supervision period without breaching any license conditions.

“I was on licence for nine months and it feels really good to have finished it,” she said.

“The support I’ve received from Jackie, my probation officer, and her co-workers is priceless. I am now doing a degree in probation and criminal justice studies and have nearly completed my diploma in health and social care.

“My life’s changed so much thanks to the care and support I’ve had from probation. They believed in me and gave me the tools to believe in myself. They are the people who should be getting an award as without their help, support and care only god knows where I would be today.

“I thank them with all my heart.”
