An ethical clothes store has been launched by a former Coopers' Company and Coborn School student.

Brothers We Stand is the venture of 24-year-old Jonathan Mitchell.

Jonathan said: “We want to celebrate good design and creativity as well as doing it in a way that’s conscious and respectful to the people who make the clothes we love.”

The brand launched in November and has gone from strength to strength with a new fashion shoot happening this week.

Jonathan, who lives in Athelstane Grove, Bow, used to commute to school in Upminster where he developed his business brain.

He said: “Me and my friend used to sell sweets and fizzy drinks out of our lockers at Coopers’.”

He went on to study international development at university which fuelled his ethically-conscious beliefs.

“I feel that it is men and women like us who make the clothes and they deserve to be treated well,” he said.

Environmental beliefs also run through his company.

He added: “The environmental crisis is an issue of our generation and we need to face it.

“If we can face it in areas such as fashion then it’s quite exciting.”

A unique factor of the Brothers We Stand store is the “footprint” tab next to each item of clothing.

Jonathan says that clicking this tab shows a full breakdown of that garment’s social and environmental impact both positive and where there’s room for development.

The store sources its clothes from companies across the world as well as having own-brand t-shirts.

Jonathan currently works as a waiter alongside his business venture during quite patches but he says: “This is going to be a big year for us.”
