Crowds are expected to turn out today for a street party on Victoria Road, Romford.
The event, organised by the street’s business owners to celebrate the end of trade-damaging roadworks, begins at 12pm.
It is set to celebrate the recent improvements to the road and its selection of independent shops and restaurants.
An official opening will take place at 12.30pm at walkway The Battis, by the multi-coloured bricks near Romford station, and councillors including cabinet member for environment Cllr Robert Benham are expected to put in appearances.
It had been rumoured London Mayor Boris Johnson would attend, but his office confirmed he had no plans to come.
Children’s rides, face painting and on-street entertainment will all be on offer at the three-hour event.
It comes at the end of a week marred by a gas leak which shut the road for five hours and forced the evacuation of about 200 people, costing Victoria Road businesses further trade.
