Elm Park’s Winter Flower Show was a blooming success over the weekend.
The event, at Elm Park Assembly Hall in Eyhurst Avenue, was held by the horticultural guild and was the last of four shows held annually.
The show included 169 entries in fruits, vegetables, home crafts and flower arranging categories.
Organiser Richard Mummery said: “The show went better than expected with more entries than expected.
“The weather has not been as kind, so some of the exhibits for the flowers and fruit and vegetables were down.
“We were pleased with the turnout as there were about 80 people, more than we thought there would be. Our photography category did well also, with 33 people entering. A lot of people entered their holiday snaps, which visitors enjoyed.”
He added that the homecraft section was popular, especially the snowballs, and for the first time there was a tie for first place and best in show with Len Swain and Hazel Mummery both taking the title. Creative homecrafts also included ginger bread men and chocolate mayonnaise.
Other standout categories included floral art, which was won by Linda Nicholls with her Hallowe’en flower arrangement.
