St Nicholas Church held a memorial service to recognise the sacrifices made by those who fought in two key battles during the First World War.
Former Mayor of Havering councillor Philippa Crowder and current incumbent Linda Van de Hende attended the service at the church, in Woodcote Avenue, Elm Park, on Saturday to pay their respects.
The church has held First World War memorial services since 2014 and this year it focused on the Battle of Vimy Ridge in April 1917 and the Battle of Passchendaele, which took place from July to November 1917.
The service, according to the Rev Amanda Keighley, was about, “reminding ourselves about the contributions of the other countries and the dreadful price they paid in deaths and other casualties”.
Canadian Corps suffered 3,598 losses during the Battle of Vimy Ridge whilst the Battle of Passchendaele was considered to be the start of the end of the war to end all wars.
