A successful Indian takeaway was handed from one generation to another on Saturday to ensure its longevity.

Palash Tandoori in Station Parade, Elm Park, opened in 1994 and will now be run by Ali Samad, 31 from Wapping.

The family business was opened by relative Monir Ali and then run by Ali’s brother, Ali Hussain, 42, and brother-in-law Muhammed Ali, 52.

The younger relative looks forward to putting his stamp on the restaurant.

“I am proud and honoured,” said Ali.

“I have a huge responsibility on my shoulder and I hope to be successful and better the business for our customers.”

Ali claims that the 24-year-old restaurant was one of the first to open up in Elm Park.

“I haven’t got concrete evidence,” he continued.

“In 1994 in Elm Park the presence of Indian cuisine was limited. My family took to the stage and opened the takeaway.

“From memory, there was no other takeaway at that time.

“I remember as a little boy, I would run at any chance to go there [the restaurant] to see how the business operated and of course to eat the delicious food.

“During the summer, I would help with [distributing] leaflets. This gave me a chance to get to know the community and what makes Elm Park great.

The takeaway boss said that he hopes to give customers more value for money and will close the restaurant between April 2 and 6 to refurbish it.

Customers will have a 25 per cent discount to look forward to when it reopens on April 7.
