INSIGHT into scandal, politics and the media was on offer from a woman who has seen it all.

Author and broadcaster Edwina Currie, 64, came to Rainham Library, Broadway, Rainham, to talk about her life, career and her books, last Wednesday evening.

The former Conservative MP, who is generally known for her outspoken persona, has written six novels and four non-fiction books filled with the knowledge and understanding of life on the fast-track.

As Junior Health Minister under Margaret Thatcher, she had to resign after a controversial statement about salmonella enraged farmers and egg producers.

Four years later, in 1992, she caused a sensation when her book Her Diaries (1987–92) revealed a four-year affair with former prime minister John Major.

A successful career followed in radio and television including Hell’s Kitchen, Celebrity Mastermind and Celebrity Wife Swap.
