Pupils were visited by a member of the House of Lords who heaped glowing praise on their academy.

Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea, founder of Cobra Beer, delivered a speech to business pupils at Drapers’ Academy in Harold Hill and met teachers and staff.

And he told the House of Lords of his privilege to have visited the school.

He said: “I met such impressive young teachers, who genuinely enjoyed being at the academy. I witnessed a school with a bright environment and a buzz – healthy food, and healthy, happy children.

“When I asked the children how many of them wanted to go to university, virtually every hand went up. I was asked to inspire the students, but I came away inspired.”

Principal Matthew Slater praised Lord Bilimoria, adding: “His determination to make his business a success was inspiring. We hope to apply the same level of focus to Drapers’ Academy and the success of our pupils.”
