Residents have reacted with anger to the recent name change of Sanders School that saw the surname of the hero pilot it was named after dropped from its title.
Raimund Sanders Draper sacrificed his life for the children of the school when, in 1943, his plane was headed for the school packed with pupils. To save their lives, crash landed into the school’s playing field.

The Hornchurch school was later renamed Sanders Draper School in his memory but last month the name was shortened to Sanders School prompting strong feelings from residents, both past and present.
