Two boys have been praised by their school for “outstanding performances” at the English Schools Athletics Competition.

Shaye Wettener and Billy Lecomber-Fletcher, both 13, from The Albany School, Hornchurch, came first in the hurdles and the hammer-throwing at Chelmsford Athletics Stadium.

They have qualified to compete in the regional finals in Watford next week.

The competition, which included more than 40 schools, was open to juniors, in Year 7 and 8, and intermediate in Years 9 and 10.

Dave Norris, head of boys’ PE at The Albany School, said: “I’m so pleased that all their hard work and effort has paid off. They train during lunchtimes and after school and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
