A Havering school opened a new building on Wednesday, dedicated to year six pupils as part of a commitment to improve learning experiences.
The “Year 6 Block” at Rise Park Junior School, Annan Way, Rise Park, is designed to help youngsters to develop the independence and maturity they need for their secondary school education.
Staff were left devastated after a 2013 Ofsted report rated the school “inadequate”.
Deputy headteacher Cheryl Street said: “Improvements being made to the school are driven by passionate staff, who are eager to prove there is more to the school than the previous report suggests.
“We are doing everything that can be done to achieve a successful outcome.”
The school turned into an academy after changes were required to keep the school open following the report.
Phil Wailing, chair of directors, explained the previous issues centred on the quality of teaching and the school’s leadership and management, but thanked all involved who “make the school the success that it is today”.
Mr Wailing added that successful strategies were brought to the school following the appointment of Carolyn Fox, headteacher of Rise Park Primary School, as the executive headteacher of both schools.
Rise Park Junior has since been transformed into a high-tech academy, with new IT equipment, fittings and other resources, including the new building.
Business manager Steve Adams said all this will help to improve learning within the school and the practice of teachers.
