Ahead of today’s teacher strike action, the Recorder asked readers to vote in an online poll with their thoughts on the national walk out set to affect 25 school’s across the borough.

We asked teachers, parents and the general public whether they supported the planned strike by members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT).

Twenty-eight percent of those that voted were parents, with 22 per cent opposing the strike and only 6 per cent in favour.

In contrast, teachers that voted were firmly behind the strike, 17 per cent to 8 per cent.

Interestingly, 28 per cent voted that they were neither a teacher nor a parent and they supported the strike, while 20 per cent of those not a teacher or parent were against it.

Overall, those in favour of the strike just shaded those that didn’t by about 1 per cent.
