Pupils dissected hearts, baked cakes, experimented with Bunsen burners and learnt new languages in special masterclasses last week.
Havering Sixth Form Ciollege and Sanders Draper School, both in Hornchurch, held classes for pupils to have a go at new subjects.
At the college, in Wingletye Lane, 100 Year 11 students from Abbs Cross, The Albany, Gaynes School, Redden Court, The Royal Liberty and Sanders Draper Schools were invited to try out lessons on Friday.
The sessions in business, creative arts and media, philosophy, ICT, English, maths, science, psychology and sport were aimed at giving the pupils an insight into subjects they had not tried before.
On Saturday Year 5 and 6 pupils from local primary schools were invited to Sandes Draper School, in Suttons Lane, to learn about chemical reactions using Bunsen burners in science, decorate cakes in a Great British Bake Off style challenge and design computer games in ICT.
