Surprise was an understatement for one Frances Bardsley GCSE student who found herself with three A*s and seven As.

Abby, of Hornchurch, was visibly shocked after opening her envelope at the school, in Brentwood Road. Even more so when she saw her science result.

“I absolutely hate science and I got an A”, laughed Abby. “I honestly don’t know how that has happened. I was not meant to get these grades.”

The unwitting science star was looking forward to celebrating with family, but first faced a dash to Coopers’ Company and Coborn School, in Upminster, where she hopes to study for her A-levels.

She added: “I want to do English literature, history, economics and I think I might do French now having seen my grade.”
