A weekend catching up on lost sleep beckons for a Hornchurch pupil battling with nerves before collecting her GCSE results.

Indica Hales, 16, of Frances Bardsley School for Girls, four A*s and six A grades on Thursday morning - joining 17 others in the year to earn 10 or more A* and A grades.

She said: “I haven’t been able to sleep at all because I was so nervous. I was hoping for a good result, but I wasn’t expect this.”

The student is planning to stay on at the school’s sixth form, and is planning to study English literature and maths.

Mum Caroline was by her daughter’s side as she opened her envelope and said she was “really proud” of Indica.

Headteacher Julian Dutnall praised the year group, and the emphasis put on maths this time round.

He said: “We put a lot of work into maths over the past year and three quarters of the girls got a C grade or above, that’s really good.

“I’m hoping more girls than ever will stay on with us this year in sixth form.”
