A former X Factor contestant praised Havering College students at an awards night.

Ashley John-Baptiste, part of boyband The Risk in the 2011 series, was the guest of honour at the event and said: “The things you are achieving are noteworthy and will be a springboard for what you do tomorrow.”

High achievers included Paige Burns, 20, who won the top prize for setting up her own dance business.

She said: “I really enjoyed studying at Havering College. I was delighted to be invited here to receive one award, but to get the top prize as well is fantastic.”
