Nicole was delighted with her 11 A*s and said: “I am really, really happy. I just wanted to feel proud of myself.”

She will now study English, maths, history, French, Latin and physics through the International Baccalaureate diploma.

Harry said his grades were unexpected. “I am really happy and glad to be starting in the sixth form.”

Brentwood County High School said it was “absolutely delighted” to announce its best-ever GCSE results.

Sixty-seven per cent of Year 11s achieved five A* to C grades including English and maths.

Headteacher Stephen Drew said: “I am thrilled that so many of our students have achieved such fantastic outcomes at the end of Year 11.

“Having top grades to go on to sixth form, college or employment is key to young people and I am proud that we have enabled our students to achieve these.

“A rise of nine per cent in the key headline GCSE measure is great news for our school as we seek continuous improvement.”
